Oregon Coast Trip: Hoping to Keep Our Cotton from Rottin'

Ms. Gumbo and I manufactured a somewhat unusual event a while back in the form of a four-day weekend.  I had heard tell of these things but they are not one of the options on my standard drop-down list.  The Ms. had Friday off, and in this case the week after was "winter break," so no mas for her.  I was positively giggly (yes, Jardyn helps me with that) over my first proper celebration of President's Day (i.e., a day off!) in longer than I can remember, and I found a way to take Valentine's Day off.  If you could just speak a little louder I  can almost hear you:  How romantic, what a guy!  That's just what she said.

A fun four-day 1,100-mile spoon it was.

This was all in the way of our personal program of reinvigorating the economy of at least the PNW by way of purchasing fabric and associated paraphernalia for the purpose of assembling quilts, table runners, wall-hangers, and various associated decorative fabric-intensive items.  That's one of the things we do here.  All of us except that little one, so far.

More specifically, we had learned that a number of fabric stores along the Oregon Coast were sponsoring a "Quilt Run," akin to the Shop Hop we have participated in up here in Washington a couple times.  We found the confluence of fabric shops and great familiar beach-y territory irresistible.

We had a great time.  Weather was semi-monsoon, rainy throughout most of the event and with 2" of rain and 80+ mph winds predicted and possibly achieved our last night out (Cannon Beach).  Photography and even enjoyment of the out-of-doors was largely precluded by the driving rain.  Even driving should probably at times have been precluded given the lack of visibility.

My Superbowl Champs tee-shirt attracted a bit of attention and garnered some new fan friends way down south in the Brookings vicinity.  Our espresso-stand munchkin there spoke of imminent repainting of their stand in Seahawks' colors and directed our attention to the adjacent gas-pumpers proudly garbed in blue-and-teal.  Time to top off the tank.  Ka-ching!

We were dutiful in visiting all of and purchasing from many of the fabric shops on our list.  Given the weather, our limited off-the-road time otherwise was largely devoted to savoring the spectacle of the Winter Olympics, dining, and reading.  Almost sounds like a vacation.  But we sure missed our homies!
